Windows
Frozen Computer:
- Hold down the power button until the screen and/or the keyboard lights turn off. Then wait a few seconds and press the power button again.
Computer Not Turning On:
- If the keyboard lights are on, but the screen is black, hold down the power button until the keyboard lights turn off. Then wait a few seconds and press the power button again.
- If neither the keyboard nor the screen is turning on, make sure the laptop is plugged into a power source. It may have died since you last used it. If your laptop is normally plugged into your monitor for charging, the cable could have failed or been plugged in incorrectly.
- If this is the case, try plugging your laptop into the external charging cable that was provided with your laptop. If that charger works, but your monitor is not charging your laptop, we may need to replace your USB-C cable that connects your monitor(s) to your laptop.
- If your laptop is plugged into your monitor and the display shows on the monitor but not on the laptop, check for any cracks on the screen. If a crack is severe enough, the screen will appear black, and you will be unable to see any display on the laptop.

If you press the power button and the battery symbol shows that the battery is dead, with no lightning bolt above it, then the computer is not charging. If you are trying to charge it by plugging the computer into your monitor, try an external MacBook charger instead. If the monitor cable is not charging your laptop, we may need to replace it.
