Print to the Large Format Printer (MCA 260)

1.Add the Canon Pro-4100 by clicking on System Preferences on the dock and then “Printers and Scanners”




2.If the Canon Pro-4100 is present in the list below, skip to step 5. If not, click the “+” button in the bottom left corner to add the printer.

 

3.Click on “Canon PRO-4100” and wait a few moments for the driver to load. Click “Add” when the window matches the image below.

 

4.You will see a loading screen that states the device is being set up. Wait for it to complete before proceeding.
   a.If the loading screen stays for more than a minute, click on “Cancel” and ensure the computer is connected to the HU_Secure network. If it is not, connect to it and then go back to step 1.
   b.If the loading screen still stays for more than a minute, restart the computer and go back to step     1.
   c.If the loading screen still stays for more than a minute, contact the Help Desk at helpdesk@huntington.edu or (260)359-4357 or move to a different computer.

5.Export your image as a .png with a PPI of 300

6.Open your image in Illustrator.

7.If rulers are already showing and measurements are in inches, skip this step. Click View > Show rulers or press the hotkey (Cmd + R). Then right click on the ruler and select “Inches”. 

8.By default the artboard will be 11x8.5. We will want to adjust the artboard size. To do so, double click the Artboard tool from the tool panel on the left side of the screen.

 

9.Change the settings on this window to match the image below. This guide assumes a desired print size of 28in by 42in. If you want a different size, change the Width and Height values to 1 inch more than the desired print size to accommodate for bleeds and trim marks.

 

10.Select File>Print from the top of the screen, or use the hotkey (Cmd+P)

11.On the new window, select “Page Setup” in the bottom left corner

 

12.Click “Continue” if you receive the warning message below.

 

13.Click on the drop-down arrow next to Paper Size, and then move to the bottom of the window and select “Manage Custom Sizes”

 

14.Click the “+” button in the bottom left corner, and type in 29 for the width and 43 for the height, mirroring the image below. Note:  This guide assumes a desired print size of 28in by 42in. If you want a different size, change the Width and Height values to 1 inch more than the desired print size to accommodate for bleeds and trim marks. 

 

15.Click “OK” and then “OK” on the next window and then “Cancel” on the next window. This should get you back to the main Illustrator window.

16.Repeat Step 1. At the “Printers and Scanners” window choose the Canon Pro-4100 on the left side (if not already selected) and then click the drop down arrow next to “Default Paper Size”. Go to the bottom and choose “Untitled”. 

 

17.Go back to Illustrator and then choose File > Print or press the hotkey (CMD + P)

18.In the Window, change the settings marked below (if necessary) so that your window matches the image.

 

19.After verifying those settings, select “Marks and Bleed”

 

20.In the new window, check the box next to “Trim Marks”

 

21.Select “Print”. Your document should now print to the Large Format Printer.
